Louis J. Gambaccini – In 1978, Gambaccini took over New Jersey’s transportation system when it was an underfunded collections of more than 20 failing bus companies and seven freight railroads. By 1979, he led the formation of N.J. Transit, the first statewide public transit agency in the country, and grew it into the service it is today. In September 2006, N.J. Governor Jon S. Corzine dedicated N.J. Transit’s Newark headquarters after him.
